The Monegasque Charles Leclerc won the first race of the season at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit ahead of Hughes and Fukuzumi.
Charles Leclerc got the lead of the race from 3rd position at the start ahead of Hughes, Fukuzumi, Fuoco, Joerg, Albon, Dennis, Tunjo, De Vries and Boschung. Several drivers had slow starts and Schothorst had to retire.
Black clouds threatened the excessive calmness of the race, but everything stayed exactly the same until the end. The new GP3 car was supposed to increase the number of overtakes during the race, but it has not been successful at all so far. Charles Leclerc got the victory after leading firmly from beginning to end with a very good pace. Hughes and Fukuzumi completed a GP3 rookie podium.
