Charles Leclerc secured pole position for the FIA ??Formula 2 race 1 in Monte Carlo. The Monegasque driver is however under investigation. Alexander Albon and Oliver Rowland finished second and third respectively.

The qualifying session of FIA Formula 2 in Monte Carlo has been divided into two groups, as it is an urban circuit. The groups have been divided between the drivers with odd number and those with even ones.

In the first group, the local driver Charles Leclerc (Prema Racing) achieved the best time with a 1:19.309, getting the provisional pole position. Prema’s driver would be faster than the drivers of the second group, getting pole position, but only provisionally as the young Ferrari driver is being investigated for not having waited a minute in the pit lane after his car stalled.

In the second group, Alexander Albon (ART Grand Prix) was only 12 thousandths of a second from the GP3 champion. The third position was for Oliver Rowland (Dams), who finish two tenths from Leclerc. Artem Markelov (Russian Time), who will start in fourth place, has been very close to pole position but has had traffic problems.

Nobuharu Matsuhsita (ART Grand Prix) has been involved in the main incident of the session: the Japanese hit the wall at Turn 18 (pool area).
