Liam Lawson says the Red Bull situation was a ‘shit time’ for him and now that F1 2025 is over, he has time to reflect on what transpired with him.
After another half year at the back of 2024, Lawson was promoted to Red Bull seat for F1 2025 over Yuki Tsunoda. He had all the preparation going into the season, but faltered in two outings to start the year. The team made a quick decision to relegate him to Visa Cash App RB.
As a result, Tsunoda was promoted to the race seat and it worked for while until the crash in Imola, which started the spiral faced by his predecessors at Red Bull against Max Verstappen. Lawson, meanwhile, picked up his pace after few rounds against Isack Hadjar.
By the end of it, the Kiwi secured his career best result and managed to continue to for F1 2026, even though teammate Hadjar got the promotion. As such, Lawson will be the senior driver at Visa Cash App RB next season, alongside rookie Arvid Lindblad.
The Kiwi recalls the Red Bull situation as ‘shit time’. He noted that he never really got the chance to sit down and reflect as he had to quickly get to grips at Visa Cash App RB. Now in the off-season, Lawson will certainly reflect on what went wrong and take the learning into F1 2026.
“It’s been a tough year for sure, one that I’ll definitely spend some time in the break reflecting on because I haven’t really done that yet and take all the learnings into next year,” said Lawson to media. “Yeah, grateful for the opportunity to have another go next year and try and make it a better year. I mean, it feels like so long ago, to be honest.
“I don’t even remember that much of it. It was a pretty…it was a very shit time, honestly. So I don’t really…it’s something I’ll reflect on, I’m sure. But I just haven’t done it yet. And it’s been such a busy season and yeah, I think, it’s something I’ll learn from, for sure. But I think most importantly, obviously, surviving this year and having another opportunity next year was the main target,” summed up Lawson, who ended up 14th in the end with 38 points.
