Laurent Mekies renews his contract as head of Red Bull’s F1 team

Laurent Mekies has extended his contract as director of Red Bull’s Formula 1 team until 2031. This renewal will allow the Frenchman to continue in the leadership of the Austrian organization for at least six seasons after joining the team in July 2025, replacing Christian Horner, who had been at the helm for 20 years.

Always linked to the world of racing, Mekies came to Red Bull after managing the Racing Bulls team at the beginning of the 2024 season, and also served as sporting director and racing director for the last six years at Ferrari.

“I am very proud to continue this adventure with Oracle Red Bull Racing,” Mekies stated. He thanked the shareholders and the team for their trust, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve shared goals.

Red Bull has recently revived, with world champion Max Verstappen winning the last two races held in Malaysia and Singapore. The team is now just seven points behind McLaren with six races left to finish the season. Furthermore, Verstappen has also signed an extension of his contract, ensuring his stay with the team until 2030.

Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Red Bull, praised Mekies’ ability to lead the team with strategic vision, indicating that continuity in leadership is crucial for the long-term success of the organization.
