Williams Racing’s Nicholas Latifi says he is self-isolating himself in Canada after his travel to F1 Australian GP.
Now one of a few drivers to do so, Williams’ Latifi has shared an update from self-isolation at his home in Toronto in Canada. The Canadian was at risk for exposure to the novel coronavirus due to its presence in the F1 paddock at Melbourne.
As such, he has been attempting to limit his contact with other people. He also added that his family is doing the same. Talking about what he’s been up to, Latifi said that he’s been spending time watching movies and playing games.
Further, Latifi said he will be making an attempt to compete in some eSports races, as many of his peers have done, with McLaren’s Lando Norris, Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, and others in the F1 community taking part in such events.
“I wasn’t expecting to be sat in Toronto at this stage of the season but, as we all know, the situation with coronavirus has forced a few plans to be changed,” wrote Latifi. “The positive is I’m now spending some time with my family at home.
“I left Australia after the GP was postponed and flew east back to Canada. I think I’ve pretty much flown full circle around the world since I took off from London to travel to Melbourne. As with the rest of the people in the F1 paddock, I’m currently self isolating and doing my bit to limit the spread of the virus.
“My family are doing the same also. It’s important to keep busy in this situation, so I’ve been making the most of the opportunity to do lots of training in my gym, watching movies and doing some home gaming.
“I have a sim station at home in Canada that my younger brother’s been kindly keeping warm for me while I’m in Europe. I’ve been working to get that properly set up so I can hopefully take part in some of the upcoming eSports races.
“I’ll probably get my butt kicked, but it should be a lot of fun. Keep well everyone. I’ll update you on my eSports plan shortly.” Latifi is one of the few F1 drivers to have updated about his whereabouts, after Carlos Sainz informed that he tested negative for COVID-19.
As we know, Norris and Verstappen are spending their time playing, the same is happening with Esteban Ocon and also Alexander Albon. Meanwhile, George Russell is at home like Daniel Ricciardo, with Valtteri Bottas spending time with his girlfriend.
Lewis Hamilton is laying low as well but has posted training videos like Charles Leclerc. He even shared a handwash video like Romain Grosjean. Only Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi have popped up on the internet, as otherwise there is radio silence from rest.
