Last minute pole for Leclerc

Charles Leclerc claimed pole position on one lap after red flag ahead of Arden guys, Jake Dennis and Jack Aitken.

Let’s remind that Jake Hughes and Ralph Boschung would both serve a three-place grid penalty for causing collisions in their respective last events. The Swiss was the first driver to head out on track.

As soon as the first laps, Arden International cars set the pace but ART GP went significantly faster, placing their four cars ahead of Dennis and Aitken. Trident cars were not left alone as Antonio Fuoco was third behind Charles Leclerc and Nyck De Vries.

In the second fast lap, De Vries was ahead of Dennis and Hughes before Dennis managed to have a third flying lap and took the lead of the session. Halfway through the session, only Parry and Alesi were on track, the Frenchman managed to sneak into fifth position.

With ten minutes to go, all the drivers were back on track implying traffic problems such as Maini faced when he braked too late and hit Janosz’s car. With 3:09 to go, Alesi stopped on track and provoked a red flag. At that moment, Aitken was leading from Albon and Fukuzumi.

Once the green flag waved, all the drivers went out to try to improve their time. Unlike Albon and Aitken, Leclerc Dennis and Fuoco could improve their S1 and Leclerc claimed purple S2 before stealing best time from Dennis.

Leclerc claimed his third pole position of the season ahead of Dennis and Aitken. Albon, Hughes (+3), Jörg, Fukuzumi, Fuoco, De Vries, Boschung (+3) and therefore Palou completed the top 10.
