Las Vegas GP: Hamilton tops FP2 by 0.011s over Norris

Las Vegas GP, F1, Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton kept himself on top in FP2 of F1 Las Vegas GP by 0.011s from Lando Norris, with George Russell in third.

It was another slippery but rather smooth FP2 session in F1 Las Vegas GP under the floodlights. The offs at certain corners continued for several drivers, as they continued to find braking points especially at the end of the long straights on the street.

There was a brief red flag for Williams’ Alexander Albon, who did not get many laps in after a fuel system issue. The team tried to fix the car and send him out again, but that didn’t work as he only managed to run the car for a couple of corners before parking at the side.

At the front, Mercedes maintained its pace finishing 1-3 with Lewis Hamilton on top again with a 1m33.825s lap which was 0.011s quicker than McLaren’s Lando Norris, who found himself in between the Mercedes cars with George Russell in third.

The Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc slotted in fourth and fifth, with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly doing a good job in sixth from Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was only eighth from the other Haas of Nico Hulkenberg.

The Top 10 was rounded out by Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda, who had a better FP2 after a slowish FP1. Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas was 11th from Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, with the two Aston Martin cars slotting in 13th and 14th.

It was Lance Stroll ahead of Fernando Alonso, with Visa Cash App RB’s Liam Lawson in 15th from Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only 17th after setting his best time on the medium compound.

Both he and 19th placed Sergio Perez had their best time on the medium tyre where they ran the soft compound briefly but didn’t manage to get a clean lap. Williams’ Franco Colapinto was 18th, as Albon had no time set.
