Veteran sportscar racer and winner Nicolas Lapierre has decided to retire from professional racing with immediate effect.

Lapierre, 40-years, has decided to retire from professional racing amid the ongoing WEC season. The Frenchman, therefore, ends his racing career with a podium finish in 6 Hours of Fuji with Alpine Racing alongside #36 crew of Mick Schumacher and Matthieu Vaxiviere.

In his long career, Lapierre took two WEC titles in LMP2 and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a total of fours times in the same category. Apart from the single-seater competitions, the Frenchman also competed in ELMS and IMSA championships.

He has been reported to take up management role with Alpine in the French media, with the team also to announce his replacement at #36 for the final round in Bahrain. “After so many unforgettable moments, it’s time to step away,” he wrote. “My heart is full of gratitude for everyone who shared this journey with me. Thank you and see you soon.”
