Lando Norris recognized as ‘the true reason’ for his mental resilience

Lando Norris, McLaren driver, has received praise for his mental strength following his performance during the Belgian Grand Prix, held at Spa-Francorchamps. Rob Smedley, former Formula 1 engineer, described the Briton as ‘the true reason’ in a recent episode of the podcast High Performance Racing.

Despite having to start from the tenth position due to a penalty, Norris demonstrated solid pace that saw him finish seventh in the race. However, shortly thereafter, he achieved his first victory of the season in Hungary.

Smedley emphasized that Norris has exceeded the expectations set by his successes in lower categories. ‘According to the conversations at the track, I think he receives a bad reputation. There’s always someone who says Lando had a spectacular junior career, and it’s true that it was well-funded, but he has come here and shown that he can do the job,’ he commented.

Furthermore, he highlighted that other drivers have had more resources during their formative stage and yet have not made the impact in Formula 1 that Norris has shown.

Smedley also noted that the criticisms towards Norris do not come from fans, but from individuals who are not directly involved in the sport. ‘The team members who understand how difficult this sport is know how to recognize Lando’s dedication and efforts,’ he added.

Following his victory in Hungary, Norris currently occupies the fifth position in the drivers’ championship with a total of 128 points, only 10 points behind Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who is in fourth position, and 19 points ahead of Max Verstappen.
