Lance Stroll accumulates three penalties in nine laps at Silverstone

In a race without highlight moments, Lance Stroll managed to attract attention at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix with three penalties in just nine laps, all for exceeding track limits.

The Aston Martin driver struggled to shine in the competition, as the AMR26 is presented as the slowest car on the grid. Onboard recordings during the weekend showed Stroll battling serious understeer at the Silverstone circuit.

Qualifying in 21st position on Saturday, Stroll only finished ahead of his teammate, Fernando Alonso. Furthermore, he started the Sunday race in 22nd position due to a component change in his Honda engine that resulted in a ten-place penalty.

His performance was notable at the end of the race, when he reached the maximum number of infractions for track limits. Once the three permitted penalty doses were accumulated, each additional excess beyond the white lines resulted in an immediate sanction.

Thus, he received three separate penalties of five seconds each for repeated infractions, in a striking display of track enforcement.

After the race, the stewards issued the three decisions just before 8 PM, confirming the penalties. The first five-second penalty was for exceeding track limits on lap 33, the second on lap 35, and the third on lap 42, resulting in a total of 15 seconds added to his race time.

Although these penalties did not change the final classification, as Stroll had finished in 19th position and last among the drivers who completed the race, he highlighted the need for improvement. “We have the necessary information and know where we need to improve, so these weekends are a matter of patience and waiting for updates,” he commented after the race, referring to a planned improvement package for Hungary.

Stroll added that he faced many understeer issues during the race, with a very unpredictable car, making it difficult to comply with track limits. “I always try to give it my all, and I hope things improve soon,” he concluded.
