KTM and Tech3 have explained their position regarding the concerns expressed by Maverick Viñales about his contractual situation for the 2027 season. The Spanish rider has voiced his unease after not receiving news about his continuity with the team during the upcoming reset of MotoGP rules.
Viñales, 31, is in an uncomfortable position, as a clause in his current contract limits him to signing with other teams until the end of this month. With most manufacturers already finalizing their lineups for next year, the rider may find himself without a seat if KTM decides not to renew his contract.
In response, Pit Beirer, KTM’s motorsport director, expressed understanding for Viñales’ frustration but emphasized the need to assess how he recovers physically after his recent elbow surgery. Beirer highlighted that they want to see the best of Viñales once he is at 100%.
Although the rider continues to experience physical limitations after his injury at last year’s German GP, Beirer pointed out that if Viñales maintains good performance, he has a chance to be part of the Tech3 project in the future.
Furthermore, he indicated that the collaboration of the new CEO of Tech3, Guenther Steiner, is key to the team’s future, and it has been agreed to wait before making definitive decisions on the lineup.
Viñales had already been considered to be part of KTM’s factory team to replace Pedro Acosta, who was recently signed by Ducati. However, injuries have disrupted these plans, leaving Viñales competing for a spot at Tech3 against riders like Brad Binder and several Moto2 riders.
Beirer recalled the significant contribution of the Spanish rider during the early days of KTM’s project, highlighting that he is one of the preferred candidates to occupy Tech3’s vacant seat, asking only for a little more time to assess his situation.
Steiner, for his part, reaffirmed the importance of giving Viñales time to regain his former shape, making it clear that the final decision about the contract rests with KTM but that he expects a return to high level from the rider soon.
