KTM starts the 2027 MotoGP season with hope, regarded as an opportunity to reclaim leadership on the grid. Pit Beirer, the company’s motorsport director, has highlighted that the new technical regulations will finally allow the development of a completely new motorcycle, something that has been impossible until now.
Since 2017, KTM has competed in the premier category of motorcycling, achieving eight victories, five of which were thanks to Miguel Oliveira. However, the team is still searching for the final process to position itself among the most competitive, aiming to close the gap with brands like Ducati and Aprilia.
Weakness of the RC16
Beirer has identified the primary weakness of the current RC16, noting that its difficulty lies in the response during corners. ‘The riders talk about the moment they turn and release the brakes, and they see how the other bikes respond better at that instant,’ he explained. This inefficiency translates to a poor position for accelerating efficiently.
A new horizon for KTM
The arrival of 2027 represents not only a technical change but also a restart for the team. According to Beirer, this year they will have the opportunity to incorporate ten years of accumulated experience into a new motorcycle. ‘We have a blank sheet that will allow us to leverage our knowledge, something we believe will motivate the new riders coming to the team,’ he added.
Changes in their rider lineup
For 2027, KTM is also preparing changes in its lineup. Alex Márquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio will replace Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder in the factory team, while Luca Marini and Senna Agius will join the Tech3 satellite program, ousting Enea Bastianini and Maverick Viñales.
With an eye on the future, KTM is preparing to tackle the challenges of the new season with renewed energy and an approach designed to improve its position in the championship.
