Kirill Smal becomes OKJ WSK Open Cup champion with no opponents

Kirill Smal has become WSK Open Cup champion at South Garda Karting (Lonato, Italy) in OK-Junior. Thomas Ten Brinke and Nikita Bedrin completed the podium.

In Friday qualifying practice, Nico Rosberg junior driver Taylor Barnard (Kart Republic Motor Sport) got the pole position only 0.015 seconds ahead of Kosmic Racing Department’s Rafael Camara and Ward Racing’s Kirill Smal.

In the qualifying heats, Taylor Barnard dominated almost all races. Other drivers who had a great performance were Kirill Smal (he won 2 races and finished 2nd in other two) and Gabriele Mini (won one race and finished 2nd in other two).

Tony Kart’s Nikita Bedrin stopped Taylor Barnard’s winning streak and won the prefinal A. Kirill Smal was who finished first in prefinal B, two seconds ahead of Ricky Flynn drivers Kai Askey and Thomas Ten Brinke.

Finally, Kirill Smal dominated the final. Ward Racing driver did not leave the leadership of the race in any moment. Thomas Ten Brinke tried to follow him with his FA Kart after he overtook Kai Askay, but his pace was not enough fast.

Nikita Bedrin completed the podium after he recovered some positions during the race. The Russian driver concluded his presence on the podium when only two laps to were remaining because of the accident among Gabriele Mini and Lennox Racing Team’s Luca Griggs.

In this category, there were also some spectacular recoveries, like Rafael Camara, who finished 4th after he overtook 13 drivers. Formula K Racing Team’s Sami Meguetounif also did a good race, recovering 16 positions and finishing 13th. French driver ended just in front of Tony Kart’s Josep Maria Martí, who carried out a good weekend after a bad qualifying practice.
