Toto Wolff highlights Kimi Antonelli’s speed in the Monaco GP practice

The director of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, has expressed his positive surprise at the performance of Kimi Antonelli during the third practice session of the Monaco GP. Antonelli managed to set the fastest time of the session, with a lap of 1:12.720, surpassing Charles Leclerc by 0.327 seconds.

Despite Ferrari having dominated the first two practice sessions, Antonelli demonstrated great speed, leaving Wolff excited. “It was a good session for Kimi, fast. Now we just need to keep building for qualifying,” Wolff commented to Sky Sports F1.

The team has watched with anticipation as the driver pair prepares for qualifying, with Antonelli’s teammate, George Russell, finishing in fourth position, 0.763 seconds behind the Italian driver’s time. Wolff added that, despite the difficulties Russell has had with confidence in the car, they cannot underestimate him.

Russell arrives at the Monaco GP after a disappointing race at the Canadian GP, where he retired while leading. Wolff confirmed that they have identified an issue with his power unit, but are not completely sure of the cause, which adds more pressure to the weekend. Qualifying will take place at 16:00 local time next Saturday.
