Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton celebrated his fifth Formula 1 title last weekend in Mexico GP to set new records.
Hamilton started his F1 career in 2007 with McLaren and took his first championship in 2008. Following that, he has had four more titles and many race wins and podium finishes in his career so far.
Here’s a statistical highlights of his career post his fifth title win:
- Hamilton has entered 227 F1 races and started in all of them – he holds the record which started in 2007 Australian GP and continues on. Nico Rosberg is second with 206 starts between 2006 Bahrain GP and 2016 Abu Dhabi GP.
- The British driver is 10th on the list of drivers having raced for the same constructor – he has 117 races with Mercedes between 2013 and 2018. He also has 227 races with single manufacturer, Mercedes.
- Hamilton has five titles to match with Juan Manuel Fangio – only the third driver to score more than four titles with Michael Schumacher leading with seven.
- Hamilton has scored 71 wins in his career so far with a percentage of 31.28 which is higher than Schumacher (29.55%). Fangio has the best percentage at 46.15. He has 21 wins with McLaren and 50 with Mercedes.
- Hamilton has scored 132 podiums in his career with a percentage of 58.82 which is higher than Alain Prost (52.48%), Sebastian Vettel (50.56%), Schumacher (50.32%) and Ayrton Senna (49.38%). He has scored 49 podiums with McLaren and 83 with Mercedes.
- Hamilton has 81 poles which is already a record number, with 25 scored for McLaren and 56 for Mercedes. His poles percentage is 35.68, only behind Fangio, Jim Clark, Alberto Ascari and Senna.
- Hamilton has 41 fastest laps in his career with 12 for McLaren and 29 for Mercedes. He has scored 2968 points which the most anyone has in F1. Out of the 227 races, he has finished 190 races in points and holds the record of the consecutive races to finish in points at 33.
- In the 227 races entered, he has led for at least one lap in 127 races and led every lap in 14 races. He has led 3900 laps which is the second highest behind Schumacher’s 5111 laps.
- Hamilton holds the record of pole and win in the same race with 45 races. He has completed the trio – of pole, fastest lap and a win – in 14 races.
- In the 227 races, Hamilton has only retired in 22.
- Hamilton is the only driver to have won at least one race in every season of their career so far. He hasn’t finished outside of points since the 2013 Spanish GP.
- Hamilton is the most successful British F1 driver with five titles to Jackie Stewart’s three followed by two for Clark and Graham Hill and one for James Hunt, Mike Hawthorn, Nigel Mansell, Jenson Button, Damon Hill and John Surtees.
