AJ Foyt Racing has announced the signing of Josh Pierson to a multi-year contract that will see him compete in the IndyCar Series starting in 2027. This addition highlights the arrival of a young American driver, recognized for a Guinness World Record, to one of the most iconic teams in motorsport.
Pierson will take the wheel of the #4 Chevrolet, while teammate Dennis Hauger will drive the #14 vehicle representing Homes For Our Troops. The new partnership will also include a sponsor to be announced soon.
The 16-year-old driver expressed his satisfaction with these words: ‘Competing in IndyCar has always been my dream. My entire racing career has prepared me for this incredible opportunity. I am very grateful to those who have helped me and excited for the confidence of a new partner we will soon meet.’
Pierson’s career has spanned from local karting to international competitions, including Formula junior and sports cars, returning to single-seater competition in Indy NXT. Additionally, he made history as the youngest driver to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His record includes wins and podiums in various championships, such as the World Endurance Championship and the Asian Le Mans Series.
Larry Foyt, president of AJ Foyt Racing, commented: ‘I have been watching Josh for several seasons. Few drivers his age have his depth of experience, and his maturity and work ethic are remarkable. He has impressed us in several tests with current IndyCar drivers and in our Chevrolet vehicle at the Indianapolis circuit. I believe in him, and we are excited to be part of his development.’
During the 2026 Indy NXT season, Pierson led more laps than any other driver and started on the front row in the last three races. In Milwaukee, he set a new qualifying record, and at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, he won while leading every lap.
‘What impressed me at Laguna Seca was his composure. He had the speed, successfully handled the restarts, and executed the race from start to finish. These are qualities we want to build on as he makes the leap to IndyCar,’ Foyt added.
Pierson joins AJ Foyt Racing at a special time, as the team prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of A.J. Foyt’s fourth victory in the Indianapolis 500 in 2027.
‘Being part of AJ Foyt Racing, a team with an incredible history, means a lot to me. I am excited about what Larry and the entire team are building for the future,’ Pierson concluded.
