The MotoGP rider, Marc Marquez, championship leader, has shown skepticism regarding Jorge Martin‘s potential to compete in the Malaysian Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend in Sepang. Martin, after fracturing his wrist in an accident during the sprint race in Australia, is only 10 points behind Marquez in the overall standings.
Despite his injury, Martin has been declared fit to participate in Friday’s training session, although he may not be at 100% for competition. Marquez, however, commented that he does not believe that Martin’s condition could limit him on the track.
The Ducati rider recalled that, after his own experience with injuries, stricter protocols have been implemented to ensure that a rider declared fit is genuinely in condition to compete. ‘If they declare him fit, it means he can ride,’ Marquez stated. ‘And if he can ride, I’m sure he will be at a high level because adrenaline is the best painkiller.’
In addition, Marquez recognized that Martin’s presence is important for the show and for the competition. ‘It’s better for the championship fight that Jorge is on the track,’ he said optimistically.
Nevertheless, the Spanish champion can’t help but think that Martin’s recent fall at Phillip Island may have left a psychological mark. ‘It won’t change the way I work, but I will definitely push myself to the maximum.’
