Jorge Martín returns to competition but is not at his best level in MotoGP

Jorge Martín has made a remarkable return to MotoGP competition, but the Aprilia Racing Team rider acknowledges that he has not yet managed to regain his peak form. After a complicated 2025 season, in which he participated in only four races, Martín had to undergo two operations that delayed his return to the track.

During a difficult recovery period, Martín shared that his ability to eat independently was limited. Despite being unable to take part in the Sepang tests, his performance during the 2026 season has been impressive so far, exceeding expectations with a double result among the top five in Buriram and a standout third place in the sprint race of the Brazilian GP.

The weekend in Brazil was a turning point for Martín, who showcased his potential after finishing third in the sprint race and achieving a second place in the consecutive charge. This has been made possible thanks to his ability to overtake and his skill at surpassing prominent riders like Marc Márquez and Fabio di Giannantonio.

Martín, who achieved a 1-2 for the Aprilia team, has highlighted the hard work of recent months following the accident he suffered at the GP of Japan, emphasizing that his discipline in training has been fundamental to achieving his goals.

Currently, the rider feels at 95% of his physical condition and believes he needs another month to return to the highest competitive level. Moreover, he has pointed out that his relationship with the bike is still not optimal, and he himself has acknowledged that there is a certain degree of tension affecting his performance.

After his latest podium finish, Martín is in second place in the championship standings, just nine points behind the new leader, Marco Bezzecchi. However, Martín does not consider himself a title contender, stating that the consistency required to compete at the highest level is still lacking.

The CEO of Aprilia, Massimo Rivola, has expressed his unconditional support for Martín, highlighting that they have always believed in him and that his natural speed has not been a surprise regarding his recent performances. Rivola is convinced that Martín will continue to improve and, with upcoming races, will have opportunities to prove it.
