The Aprilia rider, Jorge Martín, has confirmed that he will travel to Qatar to participate in the race, despite not having fully recovered from a fracture in the radius of his right arm.
Martín, who suffered a high-speed crash during the sprint of the Australian Grand Prix, lost control of his bike while fighting for victory with Marc Márquez. This accident resulted in a wrist fracture, which prevented him from competing in the main race that was ultimately canceled due to rain and fog.
After the accident, the rider spent five days preparing to return to the track in Sepang, but in the first practice, he ended nearly two seconds off the best time. He couldn’t run much in the second practice session, and for that reason, he decided to withdraw just before the first qualifying session.
Recently, the team and the rider have confirmed that they will travel to Qatar to assess the state of his wrist. His ability to brake properly will be key to determining his participation in the Losail race.
Martín has expressed his feelings about not being able to complete the weekend in Sepang, but he considers that the mere fact of being able to attempt to participate is already a success. ‘Now we will see how my body responds, and I will work with the team to be in the best shape possible,’ he stated.
The upcoming MotoGP event in Qatar will be unique, as the Yamaha riders will not attend due to a clause in their contracts that prevents employees from traveling to areas with armed conflicts. On the other hand, Márquez has the opportunity to achieve his eighth world title if he scores a good number of points in Losail.
Martín and his teammate Marco Bezzecchi will attempt to secure the necessary points to delay Márquez’s title celebrations.
