Jorge Martín has received the green light to participate in the first practice session of the Malaysian Grand Prix, which will be held in Sepang. The Aprilia Racing rider has passed the physical condition tests conducted on Thursday by MotoGP’s official doctor, Ángel Charte.
However, Martín will have to undergo further evaluations after the FP1 session before receiving final authorization to compete for the rest of the weekend. The Spanish rider had suffered a fracture in his arm due to a crash during the sprint race at Phillip Island, which left him out of competition during the Australian Grand Prix.
Despite the cancellation of the full race in Australia due to reduced visibility, Martín had lost 10 points in the championship standings, leaving him adrift in his title fight. His presence this weekend in Malaysia is considered crucial to keep his championship aspirations alive.
In a statement, Aprilia confirmed: “Jorge Martín has undergone a medical check today by the medical team of the Motorcycle World Championship and has been declared fit to participate in the FP1. He will be reviewed again after this session.”
Additionally, his teammate, Raul Fernández, is also injured and will compete with a broken finger. Fernández, who was declared unfit for Australia, has passed the medical tests and is expected to participate in the FP1, despite the warning about the risk of aggravating his injury.
