Jorge Martín faces with some concern his performance at the German Grand Prix, as he tries to maintain optimism in the face of a long drought of victories. The MotoGP rider, current points leader, had seemed to be in good shape after winning the French Grand Prix in May, but since then he has not been able to recover that positive dynamic.
During Friday’s session at Sachsenring, Martín was the slowest of the four Aprilia riders, a situation that has become habitual. While his teammates have managed to win at least one sprint race, he has been left out of those successes.
“Fridays always make me feel like we are one step back, as I’ve never driven here with Aprilia,” he commented. “This creates a big difference compared to my last visit to the track.” Although his slow adaptation may be related to his injury absence during part of the previous season, Martín believes that this time the problems are deeper.
“I’m still a bit far from the fight for victory. I think for the podium we are in a good position, but we need to make an effort,” he added. Currently, Martín does not experience good rear grip and detects excessive movement at the front, which complicates his performance. “I have no strong points at this moment.”
Despite the difficulties, the rider seeks to improve his feeling on the bike: “I’m glad to have had a strong start to the season, coming from where I was. My goal is always to improve, but now I feel like we are a bit far from victory at Le Mans or other races.”
Finally, Martín has issued a warning to Aprilia, which has been affected by the improvement of the competition, especially from Ducati: “I know that the rest of the group, let’s say Ducati, has improved a lot. Other brands are also advancing. We have to keep this pace, or we will be left behind.”
