Joan Mir has expressed doubts about the impact of Honda’s best result in MotoGP, despite Johann Zarco achieving seventh place at the Grand Prix of Spain held in Jerez. According to Mir, this finish does not alter the overall situation of the Japanese brand in the competition.
Zarco, a rider for the LCR Honda team, remained competitive among the Ducati and Aprilia riders, consolidating himself in fifth position after a slow launch from the front row. However, the finish in seventh position stands out as Honda’s best result on a race day.
Mir, while congratulating Zarco, commented that this result does not reflect a real improvement in the team. He adds that the pace of the riders is similar and that if one starts from the front, it’s possible to finish with a favorable result without having a significantly higher speed. “If the race had lasted five more laps, I would surely have finished in tenth position,” said Mir, highlighting that the current situation of the bike does not allow him to advance significantly.
Although Honda has registered progress compared to last year, Mir observed that Ducati and Aprilia have made substantial improvements, while other teams like KTM have also solved tire wear issues and are now stronger competitors.
Regarding Zarco’s seventh place, the rider pointed out that the lack of aerodynamic advancements is a key weakness for Honda this season, and he emphasized the need to work better with current resources to improve the overall performance of the bike.
