The Spanish rider Joan Mir will not participate in the upcoming GP of Austria in MotoGP. This decision has been made after medical tests conducted in Barcelona, following his health conditions during the San Marino Grand Prix, showed altered blood parameters.
Mir had experienced headaches and a severe lack of energy during the Misano race, where he finished in twentieth place. After attempting to compete on Sunday, he was forced to retire on the fifth lap, acknowledging that he was not in physical condition to continue.
The doctors have recommended that the Honda HRC rider focus on his recovery and not participate in the race at the Red Bull Ring. Honda has also confirmed that Mir will have to undergo additional tests to determine the source of his health issues.
Mir looks towards the Japan GP
Despite his absence in Austria, Mir and the Honda team are hopeful that he can return for the Japan GP, which is the next event on the calendar after Austria. In his place, the Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami will take over riding the RC213V during the weekend, taking the opportunity to continue working on the development of the bike.
Nakagami had already been scheduled to participate in the post-race tests on Monday, so this will be a good opportunity to prepare for his next participation in Motegi, coincidentally the race where Honda hopes to have Mir back.
