Joan Mir explains his illness after weeks of absence in MotoGP

Joan Mir, rider for Honda HRC, has spoken about the illness that kept him out of competition for four races in the 2026 season of MotoGP. The world champion of 2020 has acknowledged that he now understands better the reasons for his irregular performance this season.

This weekend, Mir returns to the tracks in Malaysia, after having been absent from the races due to a medical condition that had not been specified previously. The former rider referred to his vision problems and extreme fatigue that began even before this absence.

Prior to his break, Mir’s frequent crashes had drawn attention. Although he was not directly asked about this aspect, he was queried about whether his health issues had affected him during the season. “Yes, yes, yes, completely,” Mir replied, adding that he now has many answers regarding the incidents that have marked his campaign.

In an English press conference, Mir reflected on his recovery and how the absence from races had allowed him to realize the seriousness of his situation. “The most concerning were the vision problems and the extreme fatigue that I couldn’t control,” he stated. “Before Misano, I had already been experiencing it for some time, but that was where I started to lose control.”

Mir specified that the vision problem he had previously, along with stress, had increased during the weeks leading up to the San Marino Grand Prix, which was his last race before his break.

The Mallorcan rider acknowledged that competition would require a body in optimal condition and expressed that, despite his desired participation, the important thing is to be prepared. “If you don’t feel well… anything you think, will harm you,” he concluded.
