The British driver Jenson Button has shared his emotions after returning to drive his historic Brawn GP F1 during the 83rd Goodwood Members’ Meeting. The 2009 champion described this experience as “exciting” and full of memories.
During the weekend of the event, Button not only drove his Brawn GP but also drove other iconic vehicles, such as the Jaguar E-type and the Chevrolet Camaro Z28. This was the first time he piloted the BGP 001 since 2019, when he did so at Silverstone.
After his lap, Button expressed his surprise at the speed of the car: “It’s amazing how fast these vehicles are. I approach the corners thinking of braking like I would in the E-type, but I have to brake much later”. His comments reflect the immediate adaptation he felt returning to drive a Formula 1 car, which he considers “much more natural” than other vehicles.
Furthermore, the driver nostalgically recalled his year 2009, highlighting the generosity of Ross Brawn, who allowed him to drive his former championship car again: “It was a wonderful year, and there’s no better place to showcase this vehicle than Goodwood”.
Button retired from professional racing at the end of his season in the World Endurance Championship in 2025, and this reunion has been an opportunity to reminisce about his past achievements in the world of Formula 1.
