Jack Miller, rider of Pramac Racing, expressed his frustration over the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix, highlighting that not being able to compete in his last MotoGP race in front of his fans is “hard to accept”.
The weather conditions at Phillip Island forced the cancellation of all activities scheduled for Sunday, including the main event of the category, due to low visibility that prevented the operation of the medical helicopter.
This event closes the history of the Phillip Island racetrack as a MotoGP venue, which will be replaced by a new urban circuit in Adelaide next season. For Miller, losing the chance to compete at his home track was a huge missed opportunity before his transition to the World Superbike Championship.
During his speech, Miller thanked the fans who made an effort to attend the event despite the weather conditions. “The fans have been incredible over the years,” he shared with an open heart, lamenting that they couldn’t enjoy the races they were looking forward to.
This moment was significant for Miller, who expressed his gratitude. “It has been a pleasure to compete in front of you all these years. I am very sorry that we couldn’t race,” he commented in one of his last appearances before the fans.
After the cancellation, all riders did two parade laps to bid farewell to this iconic track. Miller entertained the crowd with a long ‘wheelie’ on the main straight before throwing his gloves to the audience.
“Phillip Island, you knew how to break someone’s heart,” Miller stated on social media, showing great displeasure with the situation. “However, I sincerely thank everyone who showed up, enduring the traffic and the rain. It has been a privilege to race here for a decade,” the rider concluded.
Despite this setback, Miller will have the opportunity to compete again at Phillip Island in February, when the World Superbike is set to bid farewell to the circuit located near Melbourne.
