Jack Aitken and the Action Express Racing team have demonstrated their superiority in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship, achieving an impressive victory at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. This victory not only marked the team’s second consecutive triumph but also extended Aitken’s podium streak to eight consecutive races.
Aitken, along with his co-drivers, Earl Bamber and Fred Vesti, managed to dominate the race with their #31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series.R. Starting from pole position, the trio led 143 of the 182 laps, showcasing great control throughout the competition.
Despite their dominance, the final 90 minutes presented some tense moments with various pit strategies that altered the order of the GTP class. Aitken remarked that the yellow flag sequence created a complicated situation, but the team managed the stops with great precision.
The British driver reflected on his team’s strategy, stating they maximized the fuel advantage they had. “We knew we had to stay close to our rivals and save fuel to look for opportunities,” he explained.
The final stretch of the race was a real challenge, with a total of nine race cautions. Aitken focused on running at a clean pace and staying alert to any possibility of an accident. “The IMSA race can be very unpredictable; sometimes there are long green flag periods, while other times there are frequent yellow flags,” he commented.
Finally, thanks to the performance of his Cadillac and the impeccable execution of the team, Aitken was able to secure the victory and solidify his position at the top of the standings with 203 points, 2036 ahead of Porsche driver Laurin Heinrich. “It’s a real pleasure and feels a bit surreal to maintain this streak,” concluded Aitken.
