Italian GP: Vettel keeps Ferrari on top in FP3 as F1 teams practice for tow

Ferrari stayed on top in FP3 of F1 Italian GP as Sebastian Vettel was quickest from Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.

After the wet run on Friday, the FP3 session in F1 Italian GP at Monza was a busy one for the drivers and teams as Ferrari kept itself ahead in the game with Vettel quickest with a 1m20.294s lap.

Almost all of the drivers were checking for tow, so that they can get it right during qualifying. Even though Verstappen will start from back, the Red Bull driver did well to be second with a 1m20.326s.

Mercedes’ Bottas (1m20.403s) slotted in third as Ferrari’s Leclerc (1m20.403s) did not have a good run to be fourth, with the same lap time as the Finn. Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo (1m20.564s) did well in fifth.

Mercedes was Lewis Hamilton (1m20.595s) only sixth with the other Renault of Nico Hulkenberg (1m20.752s) in seventh as Red Bull’s Alexander Albon (1m20.827s) was eighth after several of his lap times were deleted.

The Top 10 was rounded out by Alfa Romeo Racing’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m20.881s) and Toro Rosso’s Daniil Kvyat (1m20.945s), with McLaren’s Carlos Sainz (1m20.949s) just missing out.

Racing Point’s Sergio Perez (1m21.003s) was 12th with Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly (1m21.073s) in 13th from McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m21.292s) and Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m21.325s), who was some way off his teammate.

The Haas duo did not enjoy their time with Kevin Magnussen (1m21.336s) in 16th from teammate Romain Grosjean (1m21.621s) with Racing Point’s Lance Stroll (1m21.639s) only 18th.

The back of the grid had Williams’ George Russell (1m22.374s) in 19th and Robert Kubica (1m22.758s) 20th in a fairly sedate session with only track limits at Parabolica causing issues. The session did start after a delay as FIA removed the sausage kerb due to a big crash in F3.
