Max Verstappen set the pace in FP2 of F1 Italian GP after red flag as Charles Leclerc slotted in second from Lando Norris.

It wasn’t the cleanest of running in FP1 of F1 Italian GP at Monza where several drivers had moments at various sections of the circuit whether Turn 1/2, Lesmo 2 and Prabolica. The latter, in fact, caught out Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

The F2 racer got his first FP1 chance in George Russell’s car but crashed out in the first 10 minutes after setting the pace early on. The corner also caught out other rookie Franco Colapinto in the Williams who had an off moment at the end but he managed to continue.

Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz were others to have a moment there, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had multiple Turn 1 moments, which also caught out the Ferrari drivers and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who had a 360 degree spin at the end.

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton had his moment on the kerb too along with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll. Amid all of this, Verstappen set the pace with a 1m21.676s to lead F1 Italian GP FP1 from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Lando Norris in the Top 3.

Sainz was fourth from Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas, who retained his early lap in the Top 5. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was sixth from Hamilton, who ran the old floor. Williams’ Alexander Albon was eighth from Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in Top 10.

Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was 11th from Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo, who set his best time on the medium tyre. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was 13th from Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu in the Top 15 positions.

Stroll was 16th from Colapinto, with Ocon in 18 from Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg – also on the medium tyre – and Antonelli to round out the 20 runners. The drivers and tams went for whole list of new PU elements for F1 Italian GP at Monza:

ICE, TC, MGU-K and MGU-H – Russell, Hamilton, Piastri, Norris, Stroll, Alonso, Colapinto, Guanyu, Bottas, Magnussen and Hulkenberg.
