Lewis Hamilton led a Mercedes 1-2 in FP3 of F1 Italian GP with George Russell not far behind, as Charles Leclerc was third.
While it remained dry in FP3 of F1 Italian GP at Monza, there were still moments in the session which included a scrappy run involving Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.
The Monegasque seemingly impeded the Australian early on. He tried to pass him at the exit of Lesmo 2 but was closed off by an unsighted Piastri, which forced him onto the grass. The whole melee was put on investigation for impeding.
The sight moment on the gravel continued on for several drivers, as Mercedes ended up 1-2 with Lewis Hamilton (1m20.117s) leading teammate George Russell by just the 0.093s margin. The complaints about having a hot seat continued on.
Leclerc slotted in third from Piastri and his McLaren teammate Lando Norris, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only sixth after his struggles continued. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz was seventh from Williams pair of Alexander Albon and Franco Colapinto.
The Argentine showed good pace to finish just behind teammate and ahead of Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, who rounded out the Top 10. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso was 11th from Ricciardo and his Visa Cash App RB teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was 14th from Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, who was instructed to stop on the track after the session ended. Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was only 17th from Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, who did not get a soft tyre lap in.
The back of the field was covered by Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. Among the new PU elements, Sainz took his fourth ICE, TC, MGU-K and MGU-H.
