Isack Hadjar, driver of the Red Bull Racing team, had an accident during the first practice of the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1, which forced the display of the red flag.
The incident occurred with just under 24 minutes remaining in the 60-minute session. Hadjar collided with the barrier at the exit of the Piscina chicane, causing significant damage to his vehicle.
The car suffered oversteer in the right-hand corner and, although the driver tried to control the situation, he ended up sliding into the barriers, damaging the front of the car. The driver was able to exit the car without assistance, walking towards the Red Bull garage after the incident.
In his first radio statements, Hadjar commented: “I don’t understand why it happened like this. I’m sorry.” At the time of the accident, Mercedes driver and current championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, was the fastest on the clock, followed by local Charles Leclerc and his teammate George Russell in the top positions.
Hadjar was in eighth place when he had the accident. With enough time to perform the necessary repairs, the team has a few hours before the start of the second practice, scheduled for 17:00 local time.
