Isack Hadjar expresses his luck to compete alongside Max Verstappen

Isack Hadjar, Formula 1 driver for Red Bull Racing, has shared his feeling of being “very, very lucky” to be competing alongside Max Verstappen, who is at what he considers the “prime of his career”. Hadjar, who recently renewed his contract to stay with the team until the 2027 season, faces the challenge of driving alongside the four-time world champion.

In a recent interview on the podcast Beyond The Grid, the young 22-year-old driver detailed what it means to share space in the workshop with Verstappen. “I know I am probably facing the highest level that can be achieved in Formula 1 and he is right next to me in the garage. At my age and in this phase of my career, I am a very lucky guy and I am grateful,” Hadjar stated.

Furthermore, Hadjar commented on the excitement that competing directly against Verstappen generates for him, acknowledging that he sets a benchmark that he needs to match and surpass. “I like the challenge. Going into each session knowing that he will set a reference is thrilling. It completely changes the approach I’ve had throughout my career,” he explained.

However, Hadjar also admitted that, while he believes his one-lap speed is competitive, Verstappen’s execution during races is unmatched. “What comes to my mind that I want to achieve on the track, he does. But there is always a difference between what we intend to do and what we actually achieve. Verstappen is consistent, he doesn’t have low moments and he doesn’t make mistakes,” he concluded.
