The incident began affecting the event from Thursday when the traditional track walk was canceled and moved to Friday morning, leaving drivers and teams reviewing the layout while work continued. Additionally, teams were asked to delay equipment loading at the double pit lane until Thursday afternoon.
Initially, the action was scheduled to start Friday morning at 8:00 AM ET, but there were no vehicles on the circuit. In the afternoon, IndyCar announced that the first practice session scheduled for 3:05 PM ET was also on hold.
In a social media statement, IndyCar said: “As preparations continue at the Markham circuit, the Practice 1 session scheduled for 3:05 PM ET is on hold. Once the race promoter completes the construction of the circuit and INDYCAR deems the track safe and suitable for competition, the first session on track will begin. Further updates will be provided throughout the afternoon.”
