The Wayne Taylor Racing driver, Filipe Albuquerque, has described the first half of the 2026 IMSA SportsCar Championship season as “brutal” for both him and his teammate, Ricky Taylor. So far, the duo has struggled to compete consistently among the top positions. In the first four races, they have not managed to qualify beyond the tenth position, except for a third place achieved in the last race at the Detroit races.
Albuquerque pointed out several factors that have influenced their performance. A problem with the gearbox caused them to retire from the initial races, such as the Daytona 24 Hours and an accident due to a collision with a GT3 vehicle that caused severe damage to the suspension of their Cadillac at Laguna Seca.
Additionally, Albuquerque mentioned that they were close to stepping on the podium at Sebring, but a technical incident cost them the result. “It has been brutal, I think that is the word that best describes our season so far,” he commented regarding the GTP class.
Despite the challenges, the driver emphasized that the team has shown improved performance over the course of the races. In particular, he highlighted the strong qualifying pace of his team in 2026, as the car #40 managed to qualify at the front in four of the five events held.
So far, the #10 sits in 13th place in the overall standings in the championship. Albuquerque’s hope is focused on achieving significant individual results in the remainder of the season, as the chances to compete for the title have faded. “We are nobody in this year’s championship. Our goal is to achieve great results in each event and, obviously, try to secure a win,” he stated.
Regarding strategy, the driver added that any victory can come from a good strategy, as is customary in IMSA competition. “I want to have the highest performance to win a race, for the team to show that our car is the most competitive,” he concluded.
