The Red Bull Junior Team driver, Pierre Gasly, dominated the qualifying session with 0.5s of advantage over Sergey Sirotkin and Antonio Giovinazzi.

Sirotkin started the session on top ahead of Matsushita and Lynn, but this privileged position wouldn’t last for long in his hands as Gasly improved his time by almost 7 tenths. His teammate at Prema, Giovinazzi, could only set the 3rd fastest lap. Meanwhile, Rowland, who is leading the championship without any victories, was P12.

Giovinazzi was improving his time in the first sector, but he found traffic which made him lose a lot of time, so nobody was able to beat Gasly‘s impressive lap time. Sirotkin was 2nd, half a second behind the Frenchman. Giovinazzi, Matshushita, Nato, Ghiotto, Pic, Marciello, King and Kirchhöfer completed the top 10, while Rowland was finally 17th.
