The historic Imola circuit will host the Prologue event of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in April, replacing the originally planned location in Qatar.
Recently, the relocation of the pre-season event has been confirmed due to the conflict in the Middle East region. The opening of the new season, which was scheduled for March 21 at the Losail circuit, has been postponed to the 6 Hours of Imola, which will take place from April 17 to 19.
The Prologue Program will take place on Tuesday, April 14, and it is expected that drivers in the Hypercar and LMGT3 categories will have eight hours of track time divided into two sessions. Drivers will spend three and a half hours in the morning and four and a half hours in the afternoon, thus providing an opportunity to shake off the winter rust before official competition.
The decision to schedule this event on a Tuesday allows teams and drivers to participate in other competitions the previous weekend, such as the GT World Challenge Europe at Paul Ricard and the European Le Mans Series race in Barcelona.
After the Prologue day, teams will have a day of rest before activities resume on Thursday with concurrent events. Friday is expected to feature the first and second free practice sessions, followed by qualifying on Saturday, and the inaugural race on Sunday.
