Aprilia’s Andrea Iannone has been ruled out of the San Marino MotoGP race after his multiple crashes in the free practice sessions.

Following his final fall in FP4 of San Marino MotoGP weekend at Misano, Aprilia’s Iannone was taken to the medical center for a precautionary check. The Italian was subsequently declared unfit by the doctors.

He suffered a left shoulder trauma as he aggravated an old injury when he had his first fall on Friday in FP3. He further damaged the shoulder after his crash in FP4, after which he was taken to the medical center.

He did not take the track when San Marino GP qualifying started with Aleix Espargaro being the lone Aprilia rider, as the Spaniard qualified 14th for the Sunday’s race. It hasn’t been a smooth time for Iannone with Aprilia.

The Italian sits 16th in the riders’ standings with 27 points and a best finish of 10th (twice). His teammate is just two places above in 14th with 33 as the two are pushing hard to build a competitive RS-GP bike.

It is unclear at this stage if Iannone will miss the following weekend’s Aragon GP as well, considering the extent of his injury. In case he does, Aprilia could draft in Bradley Smith in his place.
