Both sessions today had water spicying things up a little bit. On the first one, there was an oil spill which cut down the session time to 1 hour, while the rain appeared for free practice 2. Hülkenberg and Massa have finished on the first position of FP1 and FP2 respectively. Drivers and teams agree that today wasn’t a very productive day in terms of obtaining data for the rest of the weekend.

The first session started with a big fuel spill in sector two. The cleaning of the track took so long that the first 30 minutes were lost. Part of the track was wet because of the water used to clean it and the drivers had to start the day on intermediate tyres. Towards the end of the session, track conditions were close to normal, although nobody did more than 16 laps. Nico Hülkenberg set the fastest time ahead of Rosberg, Vettel, Pérez, Ricciardo, Sainz, Hamilton, Bottas, Verstappen i Räikkönen.

By the time free practice 2 started the track had been soaked up by the rain, which didn’t allow us to see much action on track. Alonso was the first one doing a moderately long run and he was the only one to set a time until both Toro Rosso came out. Verstappen stole the best time from both Spaniards until Bottas did the same a while later. Finally, both Vettel and Massa improved the Finn’s time. Behind Massa and Vettel, the only drivers to set a time were Bottas, Verstappen, Alonso, Kvyat, Sainz y Button.
