Hughes got the first pole position for the new GP3 car in the first race at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit. Joerg and Leclerc completed the Top 3.
The drivers left the pit lane right away, but they needed a couple of laps in order to warm up the tyres. Halfway through, the first drivers to set the pace were Albon, Fukuzimi and Ferrucci. Some drivers, including Aitken and Dennis, would go faster than them, but it was Joerg who took the lead with only a tenth ahead.
9 minutes before the end, everyone went back on track for their last attempt. The Spanish driver Alex Palou had gearbox issues which left him unable to improve his time. Leclerc went fastest, but Hughes improved his time by 3 tenths.
Finally, nobody was able to go faster than Hughes. Joerg ended the session less than 2 tenths off and will start the race from the first row. The top 10 was completed by Leclerc, Fukuzumi, Dennis, Tunjo, Fuoco, Albon, Boschung i Aitken. Palou will start from the back of the grid.
