Epic success for Tio Ellinas on his win in Race 2 in Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Nürburgring, Germany. The fans today lived a lot of action in a race that started on wet conditions, then get dry and then arrived a terrible rain. Gustav Malja and Nyck De Vries completes the podium.
The race have a charm special today, and classic form Nürburgring, rain. The rain had come before the race and force to the drivers to start on wet race. But not everyone did that.
Rowland started on pole position and made a bad start on slick tyres, he drop to fourth place and then Malja contact him, spun off and then had to comeback. In second place-grid, Pietro Fantin, took the advantage of the front row to lead the whole race. Behind Fantin on second place was Aurelien Panis, who started with wet tyres.
The son of the latest French who won a race in Formula 1, came in the pits early to set the slick tyres, but when he was in the pit exit, he went off at turn 1 and caused the safety car situation.
A safety car situation that didn’t help Fantin, Vaxivière and Rowland who were driving on top positions with a lot of seconds of advantage over the first guy who pit in, Tio Ellinas.
After the safety car situation, these drivers had to change his tyres and brings to us a battle for the victory between the Strakka’s that finally was favorable to Ellinas who takes his second win of the season in a maiden one-two for Strakka and a maiden podium for Malja. On the last spot of the podium finished Nyck De Vries after a great comeback in aggressive style.
Fourth position for Fantin, ahead of Celis, Orudzhev who lost the podium after two outings in the last lap. Seventh place for Stoneman in front of Stockinger and Binder, who takes his first points in the series. Rowland close the top 10 and cut the gap one more point from Vaxivière who went off at last lap and lost his seventh place.
Next round of Formula Renault 3.5 Series will be held at Le Mans, later this month.
