Nico Hulkenberg terms the relation change with Kevin Magnussen as ‘hell of a turnaround’ as their partnership at Haas came to a close.

They have been racing against each other for long. They have had their moments too where the ‘suck my balls’ remains a highlight. Once they were announced to race together at Haas, both Hulkenberg and Magnussen had to answer multiple questions about their relationship.

They both played the incident down considering the years gone by and worked together well for couple of seasons to put Haas in a good position when they leave after 2024. Being a father has helped ease their relation too, where the children of both Hulkenberg and Magnussen have become friends.

In the last part of the 2024 F1 season, they were seen together often in the paddock. “Hell of a turnaround, that’s life for you,” said Hulkenberg to media. “I think our relationship really started in 2022 when I stepped in for Seb in the Aston. Then from 2023, there was really never any friction. I think we’re really on the same frequency, very similar points in life on the private side.

“But also, the outlook on life and how we have to work for the team, common interest at heart for the team, it’s been super enjoyable. I know on the numbers it might look that it was a bit one-sided, but I never felt that way. I’ve always felt it was small things that made a difference, and he’s really pushed me a lot, and I’ve pushed him. It’s been very enjoyable and very good,” summed up Hulkenberg.

Meanwhile, Magnussen reciprocated the feelings. “They’re [the kids] really good friends,” he said. “It’s unimaginable how Nico’s and my relationship evolved over the years. It’s been fantastic to have both our families there. There’s been a real connection there between our families, and it’s just been really enjoyable.”
