Lewis Hamilton has taken the victory in his local Grand Prix, the United Kingdom Grand Prix, who hasn’t had an easy race, where the rain has appear and the battle with the Williams too. Nico Rosberg managed to finish on second place as Vettel comeback to third.
Lewis Hamilton did it again, the British driver won his second consecutive local Grand Prix in Silverstone. The Briton hasn’t had a good star, as him and Rosberg has been overtook by the Williams who take the lead before the first and unique pit stop predicted.
The championship leader pit in at lap 20, and then made some fastest laps to reach the lead of the race after the pit stops.
He couldn’t imagine what was going to happen, 10 lap later the rain came to the circuit as Carlos Sainz had to retire and caused the first ever Virtual Safety Car (VSC) of Formula 1 history.
The rain increased and this was very helpful for Nico Rosberg to take the advantage over the Williams and fight with Lewis Hamilton for the lead. But Hamilton put the intermediate tyres one lap before the German to get a 10 seconds of distance to win the race.
Sebastian Vettel finished third after a rollercoaster race. The 4-times-world-champion started from 6th, lost a couple of places in the start, and run on 8th place before the first pit stop. The Ferrari driver then comeback. He first overtook Pérez for 7th, and before change the intermediate tyres, he overtook Räikkönen. Then with those 5 extra laps on intermediate tyres closed the gap with the Williams and the Mercedes to finish on a final third place, after a great effort.
The Williams of Massa and Bottas finished on fourth and fifth place, after a bad management of the race and the strategy.
Daniil Kvyat finished sixth, achieving his second best result this season. The Russian race was intelligent, and with a good strategy this place is all what Red Bull can get after a difficult weekend for the Austrian team.
On seventh place and the latest driver on the lead lap is Nico Hulkenberg who took the fifth place at the early laps but the rain and a better strategy from Vettel and Kvyat makes him finish where the Force India should be always on seventh place.
Kimi Räikkönen and Sergio Pérez finished on eight and ninth, respectively. Both drivers started very well the race but the rain haven’t help them where they struggle and finished in the final points positions.
And closing the points positions is for first time this season, the McLaren of Fernando Alonso, who was surpring in front of the Sabuer of Ericsson, who finished 11th, and the Manor’s of Merhi and Stevens, 12th and 13th respecitvely.
Sainz, Ricciardo, Verstappen, Maldonado, Grosjean and Button abandoned the race as Nasr had to see the race on tv due to early problems in his car that hasn’t allow him to start the race.
The battle in the championship with Hamilton and Rosberg today helped the Briton who is 17 points ahead of his teammate. Vettel is third as Massa up to fourth place.
Next Formula 1 Grand Prix will be in Hungary in 3 weeks time. Three weeks to rest and improve for the drivers who this year won’t compete at the German GP that was schedule for 17-19 July.
