Magnussen, Button, Wehrlein, Nasr and Ocon were out after Q1.

Q2: In their first laps, Mercedes went out with soft tyres and Nico Rosberg was ahead of Lewis Hamilton for 99 thousandths. Verstappen went out with soft tyres as well, unlike his teammate. Halfway through the session, Ricciardo lead ahead of Rosberg and Hamilton.

At the chequered flag, Alonso got himself up to P9 before being passed by Perez. Hulkenberg passed Verstappen for P6. Sainz got himself up to P8 and Massa P10 and was the last one to qualify. Perez, Alonso, Kvyat, Gutierrez, Palmer and Ericsson were out after Q2.

Q3: In his first attempt, Rosberg went slightly wide in the first lap and found himself 0.072s away from Hamilton. Ricciardo was ahead of Verstappen on the second row. On the second flying lap, Rosberg got closer to the apex at T1 but did not completely take it and despite beating Hamilton’s first lap, had to settle for second place as Hamilton smashed the track record. Ricciardo remained ahead of Verstappen. Raikkonen outqualified Vettel under the chequered flag.
