Lewis Hamilton finished in first position the first free practice in Monaco . Nico Rosberg was close behind in second place.
Nothing new in Monaco. Lewis Hamilton continued the dominance of Mercedes this year setting the fastest time in the first free practice of the Grand Prix of Monaco. His teammate Nico Rosberg was second, close to the current leader of the championship.
The day was cloudy and with cool temperatures in Monaco. Afterthe installation laps of the opening minutes , Nico Rosberg was the first driver to set a time in the session. The German drove several laps in which he improved his time constantly . Gradually, all the drivers joined the track activity .
Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest time when half an hour passed and Fernando Alonso went third , right between Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton placed . Max Chilton suffered a spin that caused a yellow flag and the Briton finished his session early. After that, only the two Mercedes were on track.
Both drivers were almost one second ahead of their rivals, and it became a duel between Hamilton and Rosberg for first place again, with the British driver ahead. With 48 minutes remaining , most of the pilots went out again .
The situation was then the opposite : all the drivers were on track -except Chilton- while the Mercedes returned to the pits. Alonso was third, followed by Kevin Magnussen and Ricciardo. Sebastian Vettel, who had not shown up until that point, only could ascend to the eighth place.
Ricciardo was closer to the Mercedes in third, seven tenths slower than Hamilton. Alonso improved and was less than one second slower. Vettel climbed to sixth place , just behind Valtteri Bottas . Although the current world champion snatched the Finnish’s position .
The drivers returned to the pits with 25 minutes to go and, again, the Mercedes were the ones on track, along with Romain Grosjean. When the drivers came out again to improve their times, Adrian Sutil had an accident that forced out the yellow flag .
The track activity was abundant in the last ten minutes, when several driders had problems and suffered different issues, although no one could beat the Mercedes drivers. Hamilton finished in first place with Rosberg only 32 milliseconds behind. Ricciardo was third, followed by Alonso and Vettel completing the top 5.
