Lewis Hamilton shuts speculation about his Ferrari F1 future by hinting a long-term scene, as he stays away from commenting long about Felipe Massa’s case.
With the season that Hamilton is going through, the stories and speculation are always in display about the Brit leaving Ferrari or ending terms with them early. It has taken time for the seven time world champion to adjust but he is slowly finding his groove.
The car hasn’t been an easy one while adjusting to it, but the push is for a better F1 2026. When asked about speculation and when he intends to start talking about a new contract, Hamilton shut down rumours by noting that he is fine and in no hurry considering he has a long-term deal in place.
When he joined Ferrari, it was a multi-year deal, but the extent was never mentioned. A two-year deal was expected from the get go but it could a two plus one scenario as well, depending on how 2026 is. “I mean, I have a pretty long contract,” said Hamilton to media.
“So normally, when you do a contract, it’s usually the year before [expiry] that you start to talk about it. So I’m a little bit far from that right now,” summed up Hamilton. His teammate Charles Leclerc is tied down to long-term Ferrari deal as well, which should run till 2027 at least.
In other news, Hamilton stayed away from commenting too much on the ongoing litigation from Massa regarding the 2008 F1 world championship. Due to the crashgate scenario, the Brazilian feels it snatched a better chance to secure the drivers’ title, which was won by the Brit eventually.
In the ongoing case, Massa wants monetary compensation along with apology from FIA and Formula 1, and his name against the drivers’ title. Although, he doesn’t want Hamilton to be stripped off his title – something that seems unlikely that the court can even do.
“I don’t have a view on it,” said Hamilton. “I’m not in touch with it at all, not reading about it. It’s nothing really to do with me, so I’m just trying to arrive at my weekends, and just focus on my job. And whatever the reasons that Felipe has, I’m sure he’s got the conviction within him, and that’s what he needs to do.”
