Haas has passed its chassis crash test ahead of the 2022 F1 season as Guenther Steiner sheds light on their plans along with McLaren’s James Key.
Amid news from Mercedes of their firing up of the W13 ahead of the 2022 F1 season, Haas shared about passing the mandatory FIA crash test of its new chassis. The two outfits became the first to announce their happenings of the new season.
Steiner, meanwhile, shed light on their plans for the new season with regards to the crash tests and also how they are to assemble their new car, the VF22 which is being prepped up by Simone Resta who has been working whole year on the new machine.
“We’ve done some preliminary crash test because you don’t do the chassis complete straight away,” Steiner said to FormulaRapida.net. “You do a part of it. Hopefully we pass it, that is the aim. And no, the car will be assembled before the first test and this year we assemble it again in Italy, like we did before.
“We didn’t do that last year because it was an existing car. It was the car from 2020 which we just rebuilt that changed a few paths but we are going to assemble it again in Italy, because all the technical people is there and a lot of the parts are made by Dallara. So it’s better to be in their facility when we assemble the first car, and then from there we take it to Spain for the test,” summed up Steiner.
At the same time, McLaren also confirmed that its chassis has been approved by the FIA too. “This time of year is typically when you begin to impact test and test the first major components anyway, that’s for any year,” said Key to media including FormulaRapida.net.
“It’s a busy period for the teams, for the FIA to witness all these tests and sign off. We went through that process with a chassis early in December and in a successful way,” summed up Key.
