Guenther Steiner, former team principal of Haas in Formula 1, has made clear his disapproval of Aston Martin’s performance at the recent Barcelona Grand Prix. In his statements, he described the current campaign of the team as “not acceptable”.
Speaking on the podcast “The Red Flags”, Steiner did not hesitate to identify Aston Martin as his main disappointment of the weekend. The team, based in Silverstone, had a complicated weekend, struggling to find pace and ending up with Fernando Alonso stopped on the track, triggering a virtual safety car.
In his words, Steiner said: “Aston Martin, currently, makes Cadillac look good, and Cadillac was three laps from the end of a race. What Aston Martin is doing right now is, in my opinion, unacceptable.” He added that the team is “far behind” the competition.
Steiner also commented on the possibility of intervention from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, stating that “Stefano can do nothing” to solve Aston Martin’s problems, which is positioned at the bottom of the standings with only one point, just ahead of Cadillac.
Despite the criticism, Steiner defended the commitment of Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll, noting that he is one of the few who has invested so much in Formula 1, emphasizing that despite his efforts, the team is not achieving the expected performance.
