The Italian Antonio Giovinazzi today had his official debut in Formula 1 testing for Sauber as Wehrlein’s replacement, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The runner-up of GP2 Series 2016 said that despite the lack of time to get ready for this test, this hasn’t affected anything because he is ready to race in Formula 1 any time:
“This is a different car from 2016, different tyres which is a big change especially with the grip and brakes. It is a good step for me and I want to say thanks to Ferrari, Sauber for this opportunity which is really special for me, testing with F1 drivers.
“Being in Formula 1 is a dream come true .
Formula 1 doesn’t seem to impress the runner-up of 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship, who finally reached his aim to be in Formula 1. He also reported that he had no problems with Sauber today:
“As a third driver of Ferrari, I have trained every day, my job is to be ready every time they ask me.
“It was a tough morning, but in the afternoon we collected a good amount of data.”
