Giedo van der Garde returned to the series with his old team at Valencia on Monday.
Van der Garde raced with Campos under its old marque Addax in the 2010/2011 series, earning 9 podiums over the two years. His final year in the series was 2012 with Caterham Racing before joining their Formula 1 squad for 2013.
The 90 plus laps in Valencia were Van der Garde’s first in a single seater since the Friday practice session at the Italian Grand Prix last year, which he participated in as Sauber’s third driver.
“It was nice to be able to get back in a car. It had been a while since I had last driven,” van der Garde told GPUpdate.net. “I completed over 90 laps, so it was actually quite a good day.
“It is important to keep up the rhythm. I train every day in the gym, which is obviously a good way of keeping yourself fit, but there is no better preparation than completing laps in a car.
“I was lucky that my old team could arrange something for me.”
For 2015, Campos have signed Rio Haryanto and Arthur Pic, meaning that there is no opportunity for Van der Garde to join their GP2 team this year.
There are plenty of opportunities out there for the Dutchman, like the World Endurance Championship or DTM, but as yet his future is unclear.
“I cannot say anything yet. My management is still busy with it,” he added, when questioned over his plans. “But as soon as there is news, I’ll put it out there.”
