Luca Ghiotto has taken, this time with a superb driving and no questionable actions, his first win in F2 this year in Monza sprint race. Sette Camara gets another podium and Fuoco completes his best weekend in the series with a third place.
Race started and Sean Gelael climbed up from fourth to first place. Louis Deletraz tried to take first place from him, but the Indonesian driver was able to keep it. Poleman Gustav Malja was dropped to fourth position.
Behind, championship leaders Oliver Rowland and Charles Leclerc were earning places. On lap 3, Deletraz used the DRS to pass Gelael. Arden driver had damage on his front win and was slowing down the group he was leading. On lap 6, Sergio Sette Camara passed Gelael, and Luca Ghiotto and Nicholas Latifi took profit from the situation and also passed Gelael.
On the next lap, Ghiotto overtook Sette Camara and moved up to second. Antonio Fuoco passed Latifi after a mistake from the Canadian driver and on lap 9, Prema driver had already passed Gelael for fourth place. On the lead group, three drivers were way ahead of the others and, on lap 11, Ghiotto became the leader after passing Deletraz. On the next lap, Swiss driver was also passed by Sette Camara.
On the same lap, Gelael kept losing places as Roberto Merhi took fifth position from him. Action was now on the battle for 7th place, with drivers such as Latifi, Alex Albon, Leclerc and Artem Markelov involved. Canadian diver touched the Monegasque and he lost part of his front wing and got dropped to 10th place.
ART took benefit from this situation and Albon and Nobuharu Matsushita moved up to 7th and 8th place, respectively. On lap 19, Fuoco had caught Deletraz and was ready to fight for the podium. The Italian driver only took one lap to pass and take third position.
Race finished like that and, this time with no possible post-race penalty, Ghiotto took his first win of the season, wich puts him close to the fight for 2nd place in the championship. Sette Camara has finished second and scores his second podium of the year. Fuoco completes the podium and achieves his best weekend of the year.
Deletraz, Merhi, Gelael, Albon and Matsushita have also scored points. Championship leader Leclerc completes his first weekend of the year without scoring a single point.
With these results, the top of the standings barely moves: Leclerc is still leading with 218 points, followed by Rowland with 159 and Markelov with 152. Ghiotto has now 150 and is very close to his team mate and DAMS British driver. The next round, the penultimate and the only stand-alone event, which will be held the 7th and 8th of October in Jerez.
